About the Dye Pit Collection
Our Dye Pit Collection is made from Nigerian Cotton that has been dyed in the ancient Kofar Mata Dye Pits.
Founded in 1498, the Kofar Mata Dye Pits located in Kano, Nigeria are said to be the oldest in Africa and the last of their kind. The techniques used at the Kofar Mata dye pits have not evolved with time, the dying practices have remained the same for centuries.
Unfortunately, this ancient craft is in jeopardy in these modern times due to regional instability, competition from cheaper chinese fabric as well as the Covid pandemic.
We at Kamso are supporting the dye pits of Kofar Mata by purchasing their organically dyed cotton for our collections, shining a light on their ancient craft, as well as donating to their community. You can read more about how in our Kamso Journal.
Supporting Nigerian Craftmanship
Kamso stands in solidarity with the dyers at the Kofar Mata Dye Pits.
All pieces in our Dye Pit Collection have been hand dyed by these highly skilled craftsmen.
By purchasing from this collection, you are directly supporting the dyers at the Kofar Mata dye pits.
